Our clients dominated Tattersalls December sales, with our previous purchases that they sold for mega-profits, headed by World record setting Magical Romance (4.6m Gns.) and Specifically (1.85m Gns.) plus topping the foal sale with Sabria's foal (420,000 Gns.).

We almost pulled off a remarkable four consecutive wins in the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes.  Having won it with Carry On Katie, Magical Romance and Donna Blini a neck was all that separated Dhanyata , who was second, from the winner. (Note to ourselves - improve this record!)

In The Paddocks

DUTCH ART Was undefeated winning two Group 1s - Middle Park Stakes and Prix Morny - having starred at Royal Ascot by taking the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes.  His dam, Halland Park Lass, was bought privately as a broodmare prospect during her 3 year old career -also starred at the sales - see below.

SPECIOSA Won MSL our first Group 1 British Classic the 1,000 Guineas Stakes in May over a mile at Newmarket.  She also won the Group 3 Nell Gwyn Stakes and was fourth in the Group 1 Oaks Stakes.  Her dam, Specifically, was bought in 2004 for only €50,000 (in-foal to Statue Of Liberty).  The pedigree was further advanced by the exploits of Specifically's half sister, PRIDE, who added 3 Group 1 victories to her record, plus being the World Champion Filly & Mare.  Specifically also starred at the sales - see below.

ALEXANDROVA, the Joint Champion 3yo filly in the World, who won three Group 1s - the English, Irish & Yorkshire Oaks.  She is a half-sister to Group 1 winning Magical Romance, who was purchased as a racing a breeding prospect as a yearling for 125,000 Guineas in 2003. Magical Romance also starred at the sales - see below.

BODES GALAXY was second in the Group 2 Richmond Stakes and third in the Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes.  His dam, Prima Centauri, was purchased as a broodmare prospect for 75,000 Guineas in 2001.  Prima Centauri's placed 3yo half sister, Triple Edition, made 230,000 Guineas as a potential mare in 2006.

PRINCE OF LIGHT Won the Listed Thoroughbred Stakes.  His dam, Miss Queen, was purchased as a racing and breeding prospect as a yearling in 1995 and has produced three Group performers so far.

STEVIE GEE Won the Listed Ripon Champion 2yo Trophy.  His dam, Margaree Mary, was purchased in 1998 for $270,000.

MAJOR CADEAUX was second in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot.  His dam, Maine Lobster, was bought in 2004 for €64,000.

At The Sales - Selling

MSL had an absolutely tremendous Tattersalls December Sale with our clients making enormous profits on their investments -

MAGICAL ROMANCE made a World Record price of 4.6 million Guineas (£4.83 million) for a broodmare at public auction.  Purchased as a yearling for 125,000 Gns., prior to her winning the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes.  She was put in-foal to Pivotal, on our advice, prior to her record breaking second sales ring appearance.

SPECIFICALLY was the third top priced broodmare in Europe in 2006 when fetching 1.85 million Guineas (£1,942,500). Purchased in 2004 for €50,000 (£37,000), she is the dam of Group 1 1,000 Guineas winner Speciosa. On our advice she was put back in-foal to Speciosa's sire Danehill Dancer prior to this ultra-lucrative return to the sales.

HALLAND PARK LASS, though sold in 2005, represented another major success.  Bought privately for less than £10,000 as a filly out of training, she produced dual Group 1 winning 2 year old Dutch Art.  This time she made 710,000 Gns. (in-foal to Tobougg) and her Kyllachy filly foal made 280,000 Gns - making a total of £1.04 million.

The top priced foal in Europe was the colt by Sadler's Wells out of Sabria at 420,000 Guineas (£441,000). Sabria was purchased as a filly out of training for Genesis Green Stud for 25,000 Gns. (£26,250) in 1994.  She has produced Group 1 winner Landseer and Group 1 placed Ikhtyar.  At public auction her progeny have now made over £1.74 million.

Pinhooking foals to yearlings proved successful again for our clients with -

€65,000 (43,904 Gns.) Statue of Liberty colt increasing 128% to 100,000 Gns. €34,000 (22,965 Gns) Spinning World filly rising 282% to €130,000 (85,386 Gns)
35,000 Gns. Royal Applause colt increasing 86% to 65,000 Gns.
14,500 Gns. Cape Cross colt increasing 348% to 65,000 Gns.
30,000 Gns. Fasliyev colt increasing 267% to 110,000 Gns.
5,000 Gns. Hawk Wing colt increasing 425% to €40,000 (26,273 Gns.)
27,000 Gns. Bertolini filly increasing 159% to 70,000 Gns.
€15,000 (9,852 Gns.) Elnadim colt increased 154% to 25,000 Gns.

At The Sales - Buying

At the yearling sales we bought more youngsters than ever before with 79 purchases for well over £4m.  The yearlings have been distributed to a number of trainers including - Giles Bravery, Peter Chapple-Hyam, James Fanshawe, Tim McCarthy, Brian Meehan, Bryan Smart and Marcus Tregoning.  They included a filly by Sadler's Wells (€1.3m), Redback filly (270,000 Gns.), Indian Ridge colt (180,000 Gns.), Johannesburg colt ($270,000), Smart Strike filly ($220,000) and Galileo filly (€130,000).

We again featured prominently with 51 purchases bought to continue racing from the in-training sales (breeze-up and already tried sales) for over £1.5m, led by the purchases of Resignation (150,000 Gns.) to go to Hong Kong, Numeric (130,000 Gns.) will race in Saudi Arabia and Danny Templeton (120,000 Gns.) to travel to the USA.

MSL were busy acquiring fillies to go to stud and broodmares-in-foal throughout the year, with a total of over 35 bought at public auction for over £1.86m.  Our most high profile buys were - Songbook ($500,000), Leo's Star (250,000 Gns.), Tutu Much (200,000 Gns.), Perilous Pursuit ($325,000), Aplysia (155,000 Gns.), Quantum (140,000 Gns.) and Just Wood (100,000 Gns.).

The foal sales were very strong making it awfully hard to buy at value.  We hope that we have achieved this when buying 24 foals for almost £1m led by a Refuse to Bend colt (220,000 Gns.) and a Fusaichi Pegasus filly ($200,000).

In addition to the numerous public auction purchases, we have also been as active as ever buying buying privately both to race and as breeding stock.  This year our purchases have been sent far and wide including to the USA, Hong Kong, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Hungary, Pakistan etc.
